Xavier Farré, MD, PhD

I am a catalan pathologist specialized in prostate cancer. I live in Lleida, a city located in Catalonia. I speak English, Spanish, Catalan and a little bit of Italian. I am licensed to practice pathology in Catalonia, Spain and Sweden.

My research topic of interest is prevention and early diagnosis of prostate cancer. I started working on prostate while doing my Ph.D at Hospital Clínic in Barcelona.

​

Later, I was awarded with a Fulbright grant to specialize in early stages of prostate cancer at the the best hospital in the world in this topic (Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions). At that institution , I could learn very difficult and rare topics on prostate pathology from the best prostate pathologist in the world, Jonathan I. Epstein.

​

My research career continued in the Caribbean at the area with the highest incidence of prostate cancer in the world, where I learnt about environmental risk factors of prostate cancer.

​

Then, I moved to Austria to improve my knowledge of early diagnosis of prostate cancer from the Tyrol Screening Project.

​

My last job position was in New York, at Cornell University, a leading institution in robotic prostatectomy and precision medicine, with a short extended period at Mount Sinai Medical Center.  

​

In New York, I was recruited by the the Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3). I provided a waist measure and a non-fast blood sample, I complete the baseline survey, and I fill follow-up surveys on my exposures.

​

Recently, I became interested about the potential of whole slide scanning for prostate pathology clinical practice, education and research, as well as global health challenges related to pathology 

​

For that reason, I volunteer online connected with Haiti, Cuba and Dominica, and more recently with Africa, in prostate cancer-related initiatives.

​

In my leisure time, I like hiking, travelling, beach, and listen to music. I´m a fan of computers, SciFi, Toastmasters club activities, and watching FC Barcelona soccer games .
